What does it do?

I bought it beqause i believe it belongs to the car.

Hi,

the part belongs to the crankcase ventilation, it serves as a flame protection.

You can find it at the beginning of the long steel pipe behind the cylinder head.

OK thank you, so this is only for flame protection or does it also keep the oil away?

OK thank you, i have not put it in yet, it is much bigger than the pipe on the inlet.

Today i tried to put it in the pipe but it won't fit, does anybody know the exact position?

These parts of the crankcase ventilation have changed a couple of times. It may be that due to these changes this part may not fit.

I have removed mine several years ago (accidently) as it was not mentioned in the service manual (Reparaturleitfaden) and I thought that it was installed by the previous owner. Hence, I cannot check with my car... I just remember that even for the new MPI pipes partly have changed as the original ones had the tendency to dissolve (rubber instead of hard-plastics). Somebody in here will know more precisely...
